On the 5th May 2010, I was given the opportunity to write a piece for a visiting Virtuoso Saxophonist. I originally had 10 days to write the piece, but with a busy schedule, and the allowance of time for rehearsal, the initial timeframe was reduced to approximately 48 hours.

This piece was written for, dedicated to and first performed by Nicole Rushforth. Nicole, a fellow student at Colchester Institute had asked me to write her a piece of music when we met in her first year, so I obliged and set to the task.
For all of my works dedicated to friends or family I designate a motif that represents them in my music from that time on. Nicole’s motif can be heard in the opening bars of the piece, and reprises itself throughout in various forms.
Sonatina No. 1 “Rushford” was first performed on 19th March 2010 in The Roy Teed Cup for Composition 2010 (Colchester Institute) where it was awarded 2nd Place, acclaimed as “Sparkling...a well constructed piece, with exciting rhythms, and just the right balance of grandioso writing throughout...”. by Vincent Lindsey-Clark.

Miniature No. 7 “Small Memory Sings” is dedicated to Samantha Miller, for whom I wrote it for as a gift in 2007 during my first term at college. The original version includes a clarinet part to be played over the piano, subsequently her motif can be heard in the opening bars of the music in the clarinet part, but is implied within the harmonies of the piano part.

Recorded: 25th April 2010 - Charity Piano Recital
Location: St Edward's Church, Romford
Frédéric Chopin is regarded as the greatest of Polish composers and furthermore one of the very best for solo piano music which he wrote almost exclusively. With his large compositional output in this medium, the ‘Funeral March’ Sonata and the ‘Revolutionary’ Etude are two of the most familiar. This Waltz in E minor was used as Dylan Christopher's encore for his Charity Piano Recital 25th April 2010
