This piece was written for and dedicated to a friend, Nicole Rushforth. I used to live and study with Nicole during my time at Colchester Institute. She had asked me to write her a piece of music when we had met in her first year, so I obliged and set to the task. For all of my works dedicated to friends or family I designate a motif that represents them in my music from that time on. Nicole’s motif can be heard in the opening bars of the piece, and reprises itself throughout in various forms.
It was first performed on 19th March 2010 in The Roy Teed Cup For Composition 2010 (Colchester Institute) where it gain 2nd Place, acclaimed as “Sparkleing...a well constructed piece, with exciting rhythms, and just the right balance of grandioso writing throughout...”. by Vincent Lindsey-Clark.
